Instagram modes use white padding and centre the whole photo. Opposite margins match; top and side margins depend on the photo shape. Rounded corners and the inner line are optional.

How to add a border to a photo

  1. Choose one photo or a set of up to 20 images. The first photo appears above the settings so you can pick a colour from it.
  2. Enter a uniform border width in pixels or percent, or enable separate measurements for the top, right, bottom and left sides.
  3. Choose white, black or a custom colour. Click or tap the photo preview to use a colour from the image.
  4. Optionally add rounded inner corners and an inner line. Choose an Instagram canvas if you need a fixed square or portrait output.
  5. Press Add border, inspect the result and download it. For multiple photos, use the individual downloads or Download all as ZIP.

Pixels and percentages describe different borders

A pixel border adds the specified number of pixels outside the photo. A 50 px border on all sides of a 1000 × 800 image produces a 1100 × 900 canvas. The photo keeps its original dimensions in this mode. Choose PNG when you need the saved photo pixels to remain exact; JPEG and WebP use lossy compression.

Percentage borders are measured against the original photo: left and right use its width, while top and bottom use its height. A uniform 5% setting therefore gives 50 px at each side and 40 px above and below a 1000 × 800 image. For an equal physical width around every side, use pixels. Separate sides let you leave a deeper bottom margin for a print-style mount.

Keep the complete photo on an Instagram canvas

Instagram portrait creates a 1080 × 1350 canvas; square creates 1080 × 1080. The photo scales proportionally to fit inside the selected minimum margin. It is centred on white, with no crop. Opposite margins are equal apart from a possible one-pixel rounding difference. A landscape photo on a portrait canvas has more padding above and below than at the sides; four equal margins are only possible when the photo and inner canvas have the same proportions.

The border field sets the minimum margin in output pixels, or a percentage of the canvas’s shorter side. Per-side settings and border colours are disabled in Instagram mode. For a photo that fills the frame by cropping instead, use Resize Image for Instagram. Enlarging a small image to a fixed canvas does not recover detail.

Use the same frame across a set

A batch applies the current settings to every selected photo, processing one file at a time. Pixel borders have the same thickness across different photo sizes. Percentage borders scale with each photo. Instagram mode gives every result the same canvas dimensions while keeping each complete frame visible.

The inner corner radius is measured in output pixels and rounds the photo edge against the border colour. It masks the extreme corner pixels, so leave it at zero when every source pixel must remain visible. The optional inner line is drawn inside the photo edge. Its colour is separate from the outer border, making a thin contrasting outline possible. Changing settings clears previous results; press Add border again before downloading.

Tips for better results

  • Start with white for a plain mount, or pick a colour from the first photo to match the set.
  • Use a pixel border for equal thickness on all four sides. Percentages follow the photo dimensions.
  • Leave rounded corners and the inner line at zero to keep the complete rectangular image visible.
  • Use PNG for exact canvas pixels, JPEG for photographs, or WebP when your destination accepts it.

Frequently asked questions

Can I add a white border to a photo online free?

Yes. Choose the photo, leave the border colour on White and enter a width. There is no account or payment step. Processing happens in your browser, and the bordered photo downloads directly to your device.

How do I add a border for Instagram without cropping?

Choose Instagram portrait or Instagram square. The entire photo is scaled to fit on a white canvas and centred within it. The border field sets the minimum margin; additional padding fills the remaining space according to the photo’s proportions.

What does a percentage border mean?

Left and right borders are percentages of the original photo width. Top and bottom are percentages of its height. In Instagram mode, the percentage uses the shorter canvas side and sets a minimum margin around the scaled photo.

Can I add the same border to several photos?

Select up to 20 photos together, choose the settings and press Add border. Every photo uses those settings. You can download results separately or save all successful results together in a ZIP. Files are processed one at a time.

Do rounded corners change the photo?

Rounded inner corners replace the extreme photo corners with the border colour. The inner line also covers a narrow strip along the photo edge. Keep both settings at zero when you want the complete rectangular photo visible inside the border.
